Yes, that is about all we can do at the moment. Early in this disastrous episode I was, yet again, overly optimistic about the American people understanding the urgent need to correct a large number of elements in the decaying American political system.
One of my fears was the strong return of the Democratic Party to limited power in the House. Unless very real action is taken, even given the procedural difficulties, the failure at major reform would play badly with the people who are desperately tired of the existing system and the blatant corruption of the minority that has gained control. That exhaustion could lead to abandonment of any effort to correct the system.
If action is taken then there may be a chance for recovery and new strength but if major reform is successfully blocked by the powers that manage Trump far harder action will come to be demanded.
As you say, we will see what the American people have left.
