Yes, I agree. Transhumanism will be a result of our survival not really a contributor to it. The first line of development is the path we are on now with AI/ML. People need to hand off as much as possible at the planetary level to manage the resources and change that must happen now. That is an incredible challenge but is, I think, just barely possible.
The real point is to remove people from the role at the center of the new system. People will never agree and will fight mindlessly for advantage and control. We don’t have time for that. Machines are, potentially neutral and objective while humans never are.
Watch for some of the problem folks who may react to this. Most won’t bother as they know what I am saying and they have no arguments other than, ‘it’s communism’, or ‘it’s impossible nonsense’, or ‘no one will agree to this’. That way is death but people are hiding from reality along with our entire mass media and almost every commentator
But horror brings change. Heat waves and storms in steady sequence have people very nervous. After almost three years we just now have major media using the term ‘white supremacy’ and ‘racist’ to describe Donald Trump. They have yet to openly discuss the collapse of the US into fascist authoritarianism. Concentration camps and mass murder are just things, not indicators of disaster.
No major media organ has discussed that we apparently have, perhaps, ten years to eliminate fossil fuels. No one discusses the scientific models of what will happen at 2 degrees C of warming or at 3 degrees let alone at 4 degrees. There is a strong chance that human civilization collapses between 3 and 4 degrees.
Why isn’t this a daily discussion in the NYT? Because it is impossible. It can’t happen. No one will stop using fossil fuels, too many jobs will be lost. So we will fail and die. Economic disruption is worse than species death because we can’t imagine that.
