Yes, I agree. The Chinese have a fascinating ability to handle these things based on, at least, three thousand years of doing so. That is why they are so strongly in support of their government. That is not blind faith but, somewhat, cynical self confidence in defeating the worst aims of their government while balancing the good goals with the silly ones, plus the inevitable corruption, and trying to control a billion people. They are getting some of it right.
Under this, as difficult as that is for American to understand, is the knowledge that those centuries of history are based on an absolute requirement to work for the benefit of the great majority of the people. They have real problems now with minorities but they are not racist. The concern is with religious/ideological manipulation. So this is different form American racism for instance. None of this is good but it is important not to become confused by apparent similarities that hide fundamental differences.
