While the social credit system being developed is frightening it will probably succeed. There are strong social self policing traditions in Chinese culture that takes a very different view of human society. While this must have the ability for public control and appeal it may be better in China with it fully in the open rather than in America that claims freedom but allows corporations to do exactly the same thing in, at least, partial secrecy.
