While I, effectively, agree that the Palestinians need to accept a solution in the rapidly evolving realpolitik of the region, it ignores the previous thirty years to hold them as not having a suitable identity as a European nation. They didn’t just as the various populations in the European mandates established in a rush at the collapse of the Ottoman Empire did not have national identity. Whole sections of the Ottoman population have spent the last hundred years stumbling toward a European model national identity. Some luckier than others.
The Palestinians were unfortunate enough to have lived at the classic crossroads of the eastern Mediterranean. The establishment of Israel took advantage of this with European blessing and a huge burden of guilt. So now there is a newer burden of guilt that needs to be recognized and is now is growing against Israel.
This certainly doesn’t solve the problem of the Palestinians being manipulated as a force against Israel nor of the Israelis bulldozing communities for their own use. We have growing planetary problems that are going to drive great migratory waves of Africans north and everyone is going to be lost in the chaos.
