We must soon take a stand
The stand must be for morality, rights, and law
by Mike Meyer
Very soon I think all of us in America are going to need to take a stand. There comes a time when the path you are on and the associations you carry with you are no longer what you need. That is a time when an inventory of value and moral positions needs to be made and a careful review of what compromises need to be made as an individual and as communities in order to continue. By fits and starts that process has begun to happen in America. This requires honesty and effort and is by no means easy.
When this happens we see the results as people who are not prone to impulsive and radical behavior begin to make statements that we have not previously heard them make. They begin to lay out parameters to define, again and afresh, what is acceptable in their communities, states, and nation. We are seeing that now in America as individuals make very serious and open statements about what they have found and why they are desperately and deeply concerned at what has come about.
In ordinary times this is what happens when people feel they need to make a change whether on where they live or, more often, where they work, or simply the community organizations they join and support.
What has been confusion, anxiety, and uncertainty needs to change into decisions that are fundamental to our families and communities.
But in times of great change that initial inventory makes it clear that where we are not only is lacking what we need but has started to move against our base beliefs and has begun to threaten us, our families, and our communities. Many people in America now feel this and are struggling with the difficulty and pain of this inventory of what we are as a nation.
Once you have completed this moral inventory you are faced with the obligation to decide what must be done. That obligation includes the safety of your family and your community. What has been confusion, anxiety, and uncertainty needs to change into decisions that are fundamental to those families and communities. We are at that point.
Historically it is easy to look back and analyze the data that defines when a state or nation reaches a point at which a plurality or majority begins to complete this self evaluation and finds the existing structure of the state or nation no longer acceptable. This is very different from the stereotypical survey questions on whether the nation is on the ‘right’ or ‘wrong’ track. Living through this we become more and more sensitive after an initial period of numbing ourselves as we try to avoid and then accept the current situation. The greater sensitivity is part of the internal moral inventory. We need to know if we are alone in our analysis. Who are the people that feel the way we do and who are those who feel very, very different. We are daily showered with information on the growing extent of that difference.
We are social animals as all primates are. We can be incredibly sensitive to unstated meanings in the groups of which we are a part. That is why I say we are very close to the point of a great part of the American population having to take a stand. That happens when we can no longer avoid what we have been seeing and thinking and its implications for change in our lives.
As I’ve said, in ordinary life, this is a decision to leave a job or a career, it may be the termination of a relationship, a divorce, or time to move somewhere else because it is time to leave where we are. Americans have been making that decision for the last two years to leave the US, but that is a tiny fraction. We are now at a different level.
My sense is that something like a plurality of America is facing the point of hard decision and it will seem be a majority in many places. We are seeing a seriously mentally disturbed person in the highest position in this country and it is no longer possible to hide from that. Our media, for all of their faults, and those are primarily for supporting the existing status quo to protect their owner’s profits, has been driven to react to outrageous threats and completely mindless accusations happening on a weekly and now daily basis. That is not acceptable in the proverbial banana republic and certainly not in a lead nation on this planet. And that is an important point as this is no longer ‘the’ lead nation. That is gone and may well be unrecoverable, another hard realization.
Now we have continuous juvenile accusations and threats against senior and respected media and many other professionals. This has required these people to begin to defend themselves and counter attack against the lies and incompetence that is putting not only whole communities or this nation, but the whole planet at risk. That is a reality that can’t be avoided.
There is concern and growing talk on what can be done. Many people are desperately working to use the November election to begin the recovery. Many of us are doubtful that so damaged a political system that has fallen into the grip of completely immoral groups, and quite possibly foreign powers with the stated goal of destroying this nation, can actually be the basis for recovery.
I think we are now realizing the seriousness of the situation and that the details of this are not the most important issue. This is not an issue of proof except in a court within a working judicial system. Much of our court system still works but it is obviously under intense attack. Can we rely on a judiciary increasingly controlled by the forces of destruction? Can we replace a blatantly racist administration that has committed crimes that they do not even bother to deny? These are the questions now.
The primary commandment needs to be avoidance of violence.
We can avoid the brutal actions of those who are committed to domination by deciding what our communities should do. I have avoided saying ‘state’ as I’m afraid this is far too complex a breakdown to work at the state level. We need to define our communities at the level at which they can work for the majority of their residents.
The primary commandment needs to be avoidance of violence. We need only break the hold of the corrupted federal government and it’s criminal administration on our communities that can no longer tolerate open immorality and criminality. We don’t need to destroy it but only break its grip. If we can’t replace that administration immediately we need to break away from it wherever communities are threatened and cannot accept the incompetent and inhuman rulings of the failed federal political structure and its rogue, pseudo police force. Yes. ICE needs to be shut down.
This is a very new age. Our technology that lies at the base of the forces of change allows us to work in virtual communities almost as easily as physical ones. The commitment to avoid violence can allow alliances to work and national assets to be tapped and processes to continue without being threatened by illegal border guards or militarized police in areas where a majority of the population not only oppose but are horrified by these policies.
While this may sound naïve it is not if we can keep our national military as a neutral force committed to preservation of the principle of union while focusing on the prevention of violence by anyone in the process of this change. And to protect the decisions of any community to break the executive hold by the federal government. We will gain nothing by a violent collapse but can gain a lot by active reorganization as selected by each political unit. Stay or devolve but we must start work on this quickly. It will be dirty with tremendous cleanup to be done after but it will give our communities, particularly our nearly independent metropolitan regions, the ability to change and grow as they need and to act as true sanctuaries for our fellow residents unjustly threatened in areas that have turned against basic human decency.
For those regions providing the support for Trump and his regime we must allow them to pursue their actions that many consider immoral and illegal if the majority of the population there supports those actions. We cannot morally use force against them. But we do need to demand the right for the parts of the population in those areas that are threatened by current actions to migrate to areas that are willing to provide assistance and sanctuary.
This isn’t presented as secession but as pulling back from the authority of very troubled national executive and legislative entities. With luck the judicial investigations will make action clear and allow the reorganization of our government in the form in which it was intended. We do not need, yet, to break the union but we do need to break the control of an increasingly illegal administration from those regions appalled at the actions and careless disregard for law and tradition that is now tearing this nation apart.
