We Are Overwhelmed by Insanity
Trump is crazy but too many can’t tell the difference
by Mike Meyer ~ Honolulu ~ July 8, 2020
Is it me, or is the level of public insanity out of control? This statement could, of course, made at any point since late 2016, but the craziness of, even, a year ago now seems tame. The accelerating social pathology is well off the scale for Trump and his followers but, despite massive action by communities around the planet, something is pulling us into a hellish vortex of irrationality.
I don’t have answers for this, and all I can seem to do is attempt to track the growing intensity. This track has become something like scratching a record of beatings by day on a cell’s wall. The days are piling up, but the blows are growing in frequency and intensity. For those of us privileged, the torture is psychological, but that carries the guilt of the people who face daily physical threats, sickness, and death.
But that is not the route to any solution but only self-pity and despair. We indulge our privilege with our easy acknowledgment of guilt. We need to look at the insanity around us and call it what it is. At some point, we will reach the critical level of social insanity that overwhelms all rationality. It certainly seems close now, but we have learned to look the other way and become very busy with daily activity, but that is so dangerous now it leaves me breathless.
We need to look at the insanity and recognize it for what it is. Otherwise, we remain in our cocoons and miss the signal to run and protect our families. Madness has taken over.
The entire planet knows the insanity of Trump and his fascist goons with absurd levels of corruption, and a significant part of our national government. The US is in quarantine for both the SARS-CoV-2 viruses and the growing insanity. The first was talked about but no longer while no one mentions the second. Just as the continuing Floyd demonstrations and actions do not appear in national media, the growing insanity of parts of the population remains an elusive symptom of something no one understands.
Most obviously, the mass partying by people who have suddenly decided they are immortal. At the same time, the ICUs in their hospitals are full: rage and brutal attacks on people wearing protective face masks as required. These we see in the media daily with head shaking and concerned looks but no other comment. These people are in the grip of a deadly form of insanity induced socially. Call it what it is.
Now the known insanity of the Trump regime has moved from protecting Confederate statues, accepting Russian bounties on US soldiers while threatening to force children back into classrooms in states already overwhelmed by COVID-19. Local governments and families need to be supported to take care of their children without having to work until we gain control of the pandemic.
The problem demands total investment in public health. Where families are supported, children do not require school as a deadly form of daycare. The economy is on its way to collapse. Let’s deal with it after we control the pandemic. The burden will take money from the billionaire class. Deal with it. We didn’t make any effort to slow this disease because we have entirely incompetent criminals in charge. They will pay later and maybe sooner.
The economy is collapsing around the globe, and the US stock market and the Chinese markets are going crazy with insane valuation and while purchasing. This craziness is a full predatory capitalist feeding frenzy, not growth. It is ‘pump and dump,’ wring the suckers for their dollars as they grab for their share of the loot. This market riot is not economics and has no relationship to sanity.
Yet, what do we see? Mundane reports that the market is approaching its all-time high. Valuations don’t seem to make sense, but, hey, that market is going through the roof while forty million people are out of work, and he bankruptcies have just started. This is confusion at the level of cultural death.
Keep looking the other way. If you don’t look at it, then it won’t hit you — another sign of insanity.
Read another careful political analysis of how the Republican Party will react to their loss in November and then come back with Pence as president in 2024. If the Republican Party still exists at the end of 2021, we are all dead. Insanity.
People with glassy eyes keep doing what they are told to keep their jobs even though it doesn’t make much sense but, then, that is normal, right? The pandemic doesn’t care and will take advantage of every stupid opportunity. Pretending otherwise is insane.
If we remove the sources of social insanity, there is hope. But we can’t pretend that these are typical times, and they will all stop killing our children and us if we ask politely. Thinking that is insane.
