We all need a crash course in sovereignty and representational government before we succeed again in snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. Everyone, as you say, needs to be happy with government being boring. We’ve been doing really well with an emerging planetary consciousness that has begun to produce a semblance of equality for some of our diverse population. But we discounted a lot of older people who have been dealing with the worst of collapsing capitalism. Many of these are still trying to play by the old rule book that allowed racism, misogyny and nationalist craziness. Ooops. Bad on us. We’re having trouble believing the old style blowhards who scam money from desperate people by promising a quick return to the good old days are still big enough to gab a whole country. People still fall for emotional tricks. Damn, who knew?
You hit the essence of this problem. We need to get emotion out of politics. In representational governments the most emotional group goes to vote. I think we can say that any political decision driven by emotion never ends well. Every political issue that becomes destructive has been manipulated for maximum emotion. Issues that are not emotionally driven are administrative and usually based on rationally defined benefits for the society. Yes. Boring. We need boring. You can grumble about boring decisions but that doesn’t cause you to drive the bus off the cliff. . .
