Very well said. Ten year stages is, I think, true for many people. The connections, such as they are, are mostly external with family being the strongest holding you, in some degree, to what you were.
For me it was children and then grand children and now the first great grandchild. These are scattered everywhere but the great value of social media is maintaining these connections. But this depends on having at least one or two working relationships.
Ahh, but if you want a coherent novel for your life you will have to write it. You have only stories, themes, and great gaps of mundane living but while the drama and the coherency are in our memory they have to be built so that they make sense.
