Very good questions. I’ve spent the last three years trying to crudely plot the course of positive change so I haven’t tried to come up with details of how this will work. My fear, of course, is a complete and violent collapse and then reconstruction. But it doesn’t have to be that way.
It is certainly possible that underutilized resources and sparsely populated towns could be sold. I think of the countryside in rural Japan, Hokkaido specifically, with free land and houses being offered to anyone who will come and live there. As the population declines many areas will go back to nature.
If we end up with a major die off people will probably consolidate smaller cities into the major metropoles. I don’t know. But I’m fairly certain it is not going to be at all like what most people think. That can’t see anything but what they already know.
