Trump pulled America down to Russia’s level
Thanks for the response and the perspective from Iraq. While most of the planet sees Trump for what he is there are areas that will consider things differently. As you mention northern Iraq that would suggest Kurds. They may see America in general positive light as they were freed from their dominant Sunni rulers and allowed greater independence. I would be a bit surprised at too much of a positive view of Trump, though, given his flip flops on Syria.
My references are planetary using current surveys, in this case, from Gallup. The US median ranking as a world leader fell from 48% in 2016 to 30% in 2017 and 2018. That is a stunning drop.

Interestingly because of Trump the US dropped to being exactly equal with Putin in media ranking. Of course for Russia that was a high point over the last twenty years.
And, yes, Obama had great potential and retained a high ranking but was a great disappointment in the end. In retrospect that was not such a surprise as he was a constitutional attorney, a Clinton neoliberal, and actually believed in the system. Unfortunately it was already in shambles with a criminal second party in control of Congress and no concept of either ethics or policy visible.
The plan that Obama agreed to was to use all past Republican proposals on environment, energy reduction, and healthcare in the hopes of creating a truly effective nonpartisan government. We saw how that worked. By the begining of this century the American political system and the Republican Party were too far gone to even recognize their own policy proposals. It didn’t matter because only money and power mattered and their based was so small that they had to turn them into weapons to frighten people with their craziness.
Putin, on the other hand, has been recognized as capable and certainly much smarter than Trump. The ease with which Putin achieved his youthful goals of destroying the US as a world force by turning both the US Republican Party and Trump into ‘useful fools’ doing what he wanted was impressive.
