This is very well stated a accurate. I would play with this a bit to place it as greed and fear. The consequences that are falling on us, planet wide, are the result of greed as an unquestioned virtue. Of course this is not simple, nothing is now and we know that.

Refining this a bit (more play), greed, as the fundamental tool of capitalism has been a powerful tool for four hundred years. This allowed the consolidation and ownership of capital to be used in conjunction with market forces to increase planetary wealth steadily.

In managed forms it can raise living standards rapidly, see the economic trajectory of China as it passes the US, but in unmanaged forms it is always a disaster and it does not age well. It is not an end in itself but a transitional methodology that must be retired before it turns corrupt. Interestingly it seems likely to retire itself by bringing the sixth great extinction to stop the infection if the source species does not act appropriately.

One last point that was lightly touched here, the underlying error that drives the current greed and fear among aging white men is a propaganda trope that was long used as a political club. Planetary wellbeing does not need to and cannot be a zero sum game even though that is such easy political tactic to play on inherent fears and evolutionary instincts.

That is the mistake that is killing us. Your gain is not my loss. Natural shortages can be managed but greed creates shortages that lead to hoarding. We are now watching that destroy itself .
