This is interesting and an aspect of the current political and economic collapse. There is more work being done on despair suicide as the Trump supporter has a climbing suicide rate, 4.5% versus right at 2%. This is a direct product of declining wages for white working class males with only high school diplomas.

Trump took advantage of this to recruit desperate people for his own benefit. A big part of the economic cause is predatory capitalism, e.g. neoliberal policies loading all wealth to the very rich. That produces the terrible irony of these people supporting those who destroy them.
