They are blind to his faults, and even his true agenda (of selling them out to the 1%) because if he’s not the savior then their Exceptional American Dream is dead. So Trump has to be perfect. And we’re (in their eyes) the Sanhedrin and the Romans out to unjustly…

I grew up in a small town in the Midwest in the ’60s and ’70s, and it was exactly this way.

This is excellent and true. They have only a terribly flawed and evil savior but it is all that they have to save the dream of an exceptional America. And that exceptional America is all that they have ever been taught. Too bad it was never real.
