This is an excellent statement of what should be obvious. Another way to state this is, if the system is broken you don’t need unity, you need leadership to build a new system. That jumps the dark chasm of fixing as structurally failing system.
You do not explore new solutions with a committee dedicated to the old system. That old system evolved over fifty years totally dedicated to supporting corporatist, oligarchic rule. Both parties supported that as the core belief. For the Democratic Party this turned them into a corporatist conservative party with token commitments to diversity.
The Republican Party lost any distinct policy difference so turned exclusively, over time, to racism and white supremacy. Economically there is no difference. Democracy, beyond a token veneer, is of no value to oligarchic rulers so they maintain it as a sporting event and distraction.
The Trump regime is a result of this structural collapse of representative government with corruption filling the empty spaces. Trump is, himself, an empty space.
What needs to be done needs to be done because it is right and will improve everyone’s life while preventing species extinction. And that cannot be done at the old national or, even, regional levels. Fortunately this can be done as a dictatorship of the majority and as a route to true democracy.
