This is America’s Chance to Choose
One road will mean success, the other growing irrelevance
By Mike Meyer ~ Honolulu ~ January 7, 2021
Nothing has been solved, and the criminals are pretending they did nothing wrong. The momentary outrage at a bunch of losers and conspiracy nuts taking over the houses of Congress Wednesday afternoon is already fading. The people who enabled and encouraged this are again enabling and encouraging the same things.
Trump, who must be removed from office and charged for inciting Wednesday’s riot, has been cleaned up and given a script to read that includes what he should have said in early November. If anyone thinks he means any of this, I suggest you quarantine yourself for the next ten years as you are fatally infected with the disease that leads to this disaster.
What can be gained by allowing the Sedition Caucus to carry on with their lies and criminal idiocy? The majority of them have made it clear that they have not changed and are authoritarian scum dedicated to enacting a racist dictatorship.
Trump is finally being ‘recognized’ as a narcissistic psychopath driven into a mental breakdown by narcissistic rage. He hasn’t changed at all over the last four years. I expect that the waffling and retreat from reality have already started, and soon he will be normalized again to devastate the nation for years to come. Why do I feel this way?
Let’s look at what must but will not be done.
Trump immediately impeached and barred from ever holding any federal position. This should be done tomorrow with him out of the White House next week, hopefully, before he manages to pardon himself and all of his stooges. If the 25th amendment as the faster route is chosen, then Trump should be out this weekend.
Trump barred from using any public social media. He is a threat to the population and the planet.
The Sedition Caucus members must be removed from Congress and charged with inciting a riot, sedition, or treason. The justice department must bring charges against all of them, and they should be barred from ever holding any federal position. The specific charges should, of course, be determined based on culpability and mental competence. That may be an out from some of the House members who are questionably competent.
The Republican Party must be declared a threat under the RICO act covering organized crime. The party would have its resources confiscated to support COVID-19 relief.
This can all be done immediately, and the affected states’ governors can fill the now-empty Congressional seats. While the worst states may well send more conspiracists and neo-nazis, at least they will have a chance to correct their representation. At least this will leave an opening for Biden and Schumer to move quickly on structural changes.
In the worst and most likely case, these required actions will be blocked. Although he may do something even more destructive in his insanity, as everyone fears, Trump will not be removed. The process will whimper out before Biden takes office. Trump will promise to be good, more lies, but no one in Congress or the new Executive branch has enough guts to do more than talk.
If this worst-case comes true, there is no longer any hope for the US as a nation-state. It will continue to disintegrate, and we can only hope that Biden does everything he can to support the population equitably while fighting to immunize the population. The most we could expect from Biden is general control of the pandemic in a devastated economy and disintegrating nation. The next election will be a sweep for racist fascism and environmental suicide by the ruling minority.
If the required actions listed above are accomplished within the next ten days, the needed changes will begin. As anyone who has begun a major reconstruction knows, you find more problems than you knew once you start, and these all must be repaired. What could those be?
With Trump silenced and indicted, he will slowly cease to be a symbol. Even if he remains an undead martyr for the most demented of his followers, as we saw in the Capital invasion, these people are a joke. The dangerous ones made it to Congress, but, as stated, they are removed from any future action, also.
The Republican Party's shutdown can allow the existing Democratic Party to become the moderate conservative and capitalist party. This is the role that it has played for many years. It will fail because it is out of sync with the new population of the planet in the grip of a multi-century climate disaster. But its role would be honest with no pretense of communal progressivism.
The new lead party would be a new communalist and environmental party dedicated to biosphere recovery in the long haul, asset redistribution, and the essential elimination of capitalist destruction. This will start as a majority party with all the ruins removed from the Amerian landscape and active redefinition of communalism unlinked from the dead politics of the 20th century.
This process will naturally remove the state gerrymandering so that direct democracy can be expanded based on one person and one vote. A logical change will be converting the Senate to an honorary body for rewarding state officials but with no actual authority beyond awards and ceremonies.
The economic power of what is now called the blue states will further decentralize the nation to an alliance rather than a union. The old confederacy and republican states, though prevented from racism and oppression, will remain provincial and backward but with no lock on power through the old distorted Senate. They can maintain their various traditions and idiosyncrasies without threatening basic human rights for anyone.
Asset management and allocation to the entire planetary population must evolve from this and will, as I see it, finally replace the old nation-states. But the US could, in this scenario, be a leader to a new sustainable planetary civilization.
This is what we must become to survive in a climate disaster and a disintegrating civilization destroyed by greed and small-mindedness. I doubt that the US can do this, and I expect that US leadership days will continue to disappear as the old economy and its concept of material wealth are replaced. Africa and India will be the source of new leadership with strong communal traditions and centuries of pain from capitalist exploitation.
This is the possible sustainable future, but it is not likely to be shaped by America or Europe. But we can try.
