Think before you speak
Bad things happen to people with the wrong skills
by Mike Meyer
Would someone please tell all the people who make statements starting with “I’m not techy and don’t know about computer stuff . . .” how dangerous that is? This statement is usually made with a slight sneer suggesting that the people who can operate basic computing systems and may have a rudimentary grasp of an information processing activity are from another planet. The great number of people who work daily with information systems, already a significant part of the population, and the actual IT people, who are from another planet, get very tired of hearing this.
The smaller threat to these folks is from the IT people who may make sure that nothing that they have works ever again including their phone. Most IT folks when they hear this stuff in a meeting just grind their teeth and think about other things but there is always the chance that one of them will snap. That is, if you haven’t realized it, an ever larger potential ugliness as everything that you have acquires intelligence and network communications. while feeding the big data lake in the sky. Having an IT person whom you know snap and decide to ruin life . . . Well, we will just leave that right here for now.
But there is a bigger problem for those in the rapidly collapsing United States. In case you haven’t noticed the US is now in the hands of a criminal organization managed by people of very limited competence but intense hatred for everyone other than their own flesh and blood. Admittedly they may not much like their own flesh and blood but that doesn’t improve things for any of the rest of us. These people, and our own government that we allowed these people to take over, seems be unchangeable and completely lacking in any human virtue. So how does this affect people who insist that they can’t understand anything IT related?
Simple, if these people can take great pleasure in ripping nursing babies from their asylum seeking mother’s arms, give it a year or two and a group of people who find themselves unemployable will find themselves in concentration camps, too. If that was too hard to follow I will explain it in simpler terms.
Very soon all jobs, excepting very specific skilled artisan positions and a limited number of artistic talents, will be Information Technology based. Everything else will be automated. If you have spent years telling people in meetings that you don’t know how to do any of that stuff then what are you going to be good for? With the country permanently in the hands of the Trump dynasty dedicated to eliminating the last vestiges of compassion, education, and charity from this part of the planet, your best hope is that they make your passing quick.
So, before the removal of all forms of education, I would announce, loudly, the turning over of a new leaf and an immediate enrollment in a programming boot camp. You don’t have much time. I can see people with a negative cash flow being identified as foreign scum with their citizenship declared fake news at any point. And we know what happens to people determined to be “official foreign scum”. You will spend the rest of your life, as short as it is, in the beautiful summer camps in west Texas and Arizona or some other part of Trumpistan.
No one wants to attract the attention of ICE. If you get on this right away you may be able to make friends with the IT folks who could attest to your value to society. That would prevent two bad things and give you a chance at survival. But on second thought maybe you should just make a run for the border now. With luck Canada will still allow you to ask for asylum.
