There is nothing wrong with your doing that as it is your choice. The families and communities that, by default, use Facebook for their purposes don’t see what all the fuss is about. It is purely a case, in my view, of immature user psychology very much as people would get drawn into chain letters and blatant scams based on their prejudices and ignorance.
This is an old pattern, fleecing the country bumpkins who don’t know urban bullshit when they see it. Again, look at the Hype curve. We are going through the social media slow climb after swearing it off and declaring it useless.
I was in ecommerce from 1996 and remember 2000 and the “failure” of ecommerce. There were many people who shouted that they knew it would fail. So much for that.
Those of us who had been in the Internet as medium from the beginning saw that as good. It was the turn to maturity and the next ten years locked in ecommerce as the world of retail. Hence the planetary domination of Amazon, Tencent, Alibaba, Baidu, etc.
It is fine if you want to use something else. Facebook may disappear but it will simply change the name and add ever more intelligent AI to flag bad information. That is the problem but it really only effects a percentage of the population. The rest ignore it and use the medium for their own purposes.
