What’s left?

Having just wrote on how to walk ourselves back from the cliff edge and start again, I realized we need to look at that cliff edge to see how close we’ve come. Most everyone has been stumbling along in various stages of depression as the Trump train wreck continues.
We’re now to the stage of wondering how much bigger can this get and how much farther back do we need to be in order to be safe? That’s the trouble with cliff edges, you think you can creep up and take a look at them but then the ground starts to crumble and panic rears its head. As well it should.
This stage of the wreck is deafening. Squeals, shouts, and cursing add to the sound of twisted metal and exploding things. The Woodward book, the anonymous resistance within the White House, and, yes, guilty pleas and indictments. There is very little left but a delusional person shouting at everyone in the hope of getting one more lie to stick. But the days of easy lies stunning people into silence are over. As one headline in the Washington Post stated, ‘The Sleeper Cells have Awoken’.
It’s difficult to watch this violent disintegration of a grossly incompetent regime and remember that this is Washington DC.
Until now the pretense has been maintained and is still being held onto that this is just politics as usual. The issues are Congressional votes in November and who can be picked to run in 2020. This ‘crazy house’ is not going to last that long.
Trump apparently has no idea what is happening but seems to have realized that his administration has turned against him if there was ever any doubt. This cannot go on no matter how much shouting is done. The whole thing is flying apart.
The only thing left is the hope for some sort of non-violent denouement. When the White House staff is talking openly about insanity and how to implement the 25th amendment there is no road to recovery. This is simply not going to fade back into normalcy and everyday Washington politics.
The shit has done hit the fan. Congress is totally dysfunctional and Republicans that have any claim on sanity are moving smartly to the life boats. Wait a minute, where are the life boats? No one knows.
This is no longer a political controversy or even a scandal. This is a national disaster that calls into question the structure of this nation state. The incompetence of the government is so great the complete dysfunctionality of Trump and his goons was still being swept under the carpet even though the carpet covered a mountain.
I expect that the already reported wild witch hunt in the White House by an irrational Trump may well cause many people to go home and not come back. That’s one way to deal with it. Besides, even Trump, may actually be looking to see if he gets any papers to sign or if they have all disappeared in the national interest.
If the Trump White House as a ‘Crazy House’ was an impossible place to work before, what is going to be now? The young interns have already been told to get out before they are marked for life.
How soon will the collapse of the Executive become impossible to restore?
