The war that we won
Now their will be No Quarter given
by Mike Meyer
Things have changed. As I wrote yesterday in The Irony Of Losing the Battle and Winning the War this is no longer political anger at incompetence and destructive policies. There is always disagreement on the validity or actual goals of political policies. The history of party politics is the history of groups, classes, ethnicities and others seeking gains for themselves. In these situations, historically in America, the ideal was that the gains for anyone group could be negative for other groups but if they were logically beneficial for parts of the society there would be some benefit for all. We have had to lay that to rest. The system is now a force of denial.
Gains are simply plunder that is able to be taken in the destruction of the majority of American society. The steady decline of conservatism as a viable political or even social policy foundation has eliminated the last vestiges of any common good. Trumpism is all that is left and that is willfully ignorant feudalism. Laws are what you can get away with and greed and exploitation are the only valid criteria for power.
The majority of the American population has now seen this embodied in the moral squalor of the Kavanaugh process and in Kavanaugh himself. The sequence of fully illegal denials of process and law going back to the blatant and totally unjustified refusal to process the Garland selection for Supreme Court justice is now complete. The court has been destroyed and now will have no validity other than as a political rubber stamp.
This, of course, cuts both ways. Why would the American majority pay any attention to a politically corrupt court? It’s critical role in maintaining a desperately decayed political system of government was the last piece that offered hope of action for the common good.
But what war did we win? Let me expand on that a little here. The change is foundational and will change the entire direction of where this country is going. As I said yesterday, the win is the realization that this is no longer politics but basic human dignity, rights, and the rule of law. This is the removal of doubt and hope that the system is able to correct itself without fundamental change.
We now have a unifying mission to remove the criminals and build a valid government. There is no longer a political working structure. There is a working federal bureaucracy but that is now under attack as the deep state of feudal nightmares. These are not hidden but what has maintained the working federal structure (not as it should be but as it is) through decades of steady and increasingly violent attacks. This has limited the greed and destruction of the regressive cult who have gained control and now completing their conquest. More on this later.
The war that was won yesterday with the collapse of any vestige of legitimacy in the US senate, is the war with ourselves that we have been fighting for two years. Is the system salvageable? Can we use the existing system to take control and return authority to the people of America? Can the system remove the corruption?
No. That war is over and the American political system as it exists has lost. The moral squalor has spread through the Democratic Party which is hopeless and leaderless. The Republican Party is illegal and must be destroyed.
The Democratic Socialists of America is a promise that is too little and too late to save the system. It will be, I think, a major part of the new government that must be created but that is later. Removal of the failed system is the only thing that matters now as it has declared itself above law, human rights, and common decency.
The saddest part of this for me is the great efforts made by people committed to the old America to save it by maintaining hope in those institutions. But those people have realized that we need to move clearly now and quickly. The rules are corrupted to benefit the criminals and to justify their exploitation.
Lawrence Lessig has been a primary legal and ethical leader in returning the system to validity by using the system as it should be used. Lessing, in a Tweet two days ago, was addressing the new reality: We need to destroy the Republican Party. This title is from a Mother Jones article quoting a “conservative luminary” Max Boot on his book, Why I Left the Right. These were discussions that were happening before the Kavanaugh debacle and the direct denial of professional women as anything but toys for white men. Lessig tweeting this now indicates the kind of change that I see all around us.
There will be a period of growing discussion on the realization that the next war is a war for survival and nothing can stand in the way of destroying the forces that declared war on everyone but white men.
We will see a growing list of calls to realization that the past is gone and the future must be very different. Here is what we will be seeing in many forms first among activists and then broadening to the majority of the population. This article is from this morning: Josh Marshall has a frightening observation.
The first stage is that there can be no compromise and the Republican Party must be destroyed. The realization that to do that requires the destruction of much of the old system will come quickly.
The pause as mobilization takes off will end with the November election. If the election is thrown to Trump the structure will be destroyed. If Democrats win back the Senate, the effort will be made to salvage the system until it is realized that the system can no longer save itself. But whichever way it does one thing is now clear:
No quarter!
