The problem is words. Specifically old words that have become buried in bullshit and emotional trauma. I’ve come to believe that we should simply designate words in that condition to be retired from normal usage.

This is not something that can or should be done in any formal way but by individuals making the decision to no longer use those words. Religion, the word, has so much negative baggage (overdetermined meanings) that using it requires extensive definition and justification. At the end some or even all in the group will be insulted or angry. I prefer to say spiritual system or spiritual philosophy which is now much more appropriate. Religion is in steep decline in anycase.

As noted in this article, god is another word far past its pull date. If it is capitalized it is no longer a word but a crude bomb to be thrown at people. This word is also falling out of favor except for the cults who use it as a threat and/or titillation. This is definitely not a word that has a place in conversation.

The spiritual understanding and reality being understood is as much scientific as anything but extends that to the mysterious, not yet known, and magical. It embodies all existence and our complete involvement while defining the nature of our agency and resulting responsibility in this universe.

It’s time to move on conceptually and linguistically.

Jordan Peterson is a wannabe throwback who knows he doesn’t really want to go there but there is good money to be made selling his angst.
