The immense change required
Pretending that this will be easy is a tragedy already happening

It’s becoming very difficult not to become numb. The daily outrages and mindless stupidity has worn us down. I think we have already failed.
Having watched media in America normalizing a criminal coup d’etat fronted by a bizarre, mentally ill opportunist with no moral awareness in the first year, the fact that a third of the population is totally accepting and complacent in the second year leaves us with little hope. Despite our own horror at what this means we have become increasingly numb.
Yes, there are many people working to hold on to hope for the new Congress in January. We are exactly where I feared we would be at the start of this tragedy clinging to a semblance of faith that there is some part of the original ideals left in this country. The reality is that there is almost nothing of those ideals to be found among the descendants of the privileged northern European class.
The single biggest irony of 21st America is that the only examples of those ideals can be found in the children of minorities and recent immigrants. They are the ones still working. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Rashida Tlaib, Ilhan Omar, Ayanna Pressley, Deb Haaland, Jahana Hayes, Sharice Davids are all female and immigrants or minorities. These are the last believers in America while the Trump regime illegally sends US military personnel to tear gas other Hispanic woman and children in California to keep them out.
Trump, the ignorant, gutless, coward is doing the will of the ‘true’ Americans and pushing to begin racist killings. The Republican Party is now a white supremacist and fascist party dedicated to the death of people and the concepts on which this country was built. They are already feeling free to joke of lynchings they are eager to attend.
With a lot of luck America may survive to become a true multi-ethnic socialist democracy dedicated to sustainability and balanced distribution of assets that will be required to survive the 21st century. But I’m betting for that to come to pass the original white ruling class will need to become a minority or, at least, fully accept minority status.
We know that will happen within the next twenty to thirty years by sheer force of numbers. This is, obviously, what is driving the racist and fascist frenzy among those being replaced and moved to minority status but it won’t happen soon enough to prevent catastrophe.
The future of America is with the ‘other’ people who remember what the ideals were that brought their parents and their families here. They need to take the leadership away from the old and corrupt but that won’t happen quickly enough without drastic social action.
We really can’t wait twenty or thirty years. Our fates will be sealed by then as the old and corrupt are determined to live in their greedy dreams until they are stopped and the fate of the planet be damned.
Putting this so bluntly makes the immensity of the change apparent. An election or two is not enough to make the change. This is what a democracy demands knowing that there will come a time that the old must hand off to the new knowing that the new will be diverse people not at all like the old.
There are many of us more than willing to see this through. But what of those who refuse to accept the future? How do we deal with them? We must decide.
For this to succeed will need a division of the country. The people who have a problem with the future are not going to make that future happen faster. Yet that is exactly what needs to be done.
With only ten years left to realign our planetary economy and re-purpose our industries the existing battle lines cannot be erased. The angry racist minority must be allowed to move, if they desire, to their own lands. That this looks very much like the Confederacy is an historical accident. We need to make room for this to happen so that we have hope of survival and can avoid a return to civil war. Ignoring scientific reality is simply not an option but it can be allowed for an isolated and powerless group who cannot adapt.
This will force the dictatorship of the majority with the ideal of allowing those with insurmountable problems to agree to self rule in a world they cannot control. But they cannot be allowed to destroy the planet and human civilization. This is the tragedy that must be prevented.
