The Endless Vote Count
by Mike Meyer ~ Honolulu ~ November 6, 2020.
Election 2020 for the US is now into the descent into a lost vote checking weekend. After the election from hell and four years of fear and loathing, even the knowledge that Joe Biden has won is a tiny flower in a mountain of shit. The anxiety will not go away even when it is over.
No one is going to declare Biden’s victory and Trump’s defeat until the last ballot dies. That is because no one wants this Trumpian horror to rear up and lunge at us suddenly. We’ve had enough. That the aging turtle waving his appendages on Twitter is finished doesn’t give us any peace is well understood. The expectation that he could go on for years in the endless repetition of his worn-out parade of lies is too tiring to think about.
The depth of infection and the size of the infected population means that the heartbreak of Trump’s political psoriasis will be born into the future. This endemic disease will cause slow but steady physical decline in a nation-state already at the end of its road.
The US, as the lead nation, was showing age and weakness but now has seriously stumbled. The confusion shows, so the predators are moving into position. The last traditional and aging leader's labored victory needs to be acknowledged and appreciated, but the aging state will not suddenly spring back to life.
It is the cycle of life and evolution; age brings the consequences of earlier mistakes and thoughtless self-abuse. The pains and problems add up until they finally overwhelm. That knowledge is part of the vast weight that we all carry through these endless days of waiting for a victory already too small to be celebrated.
But within this muted and anxious time, there is the solid benefit of a few years gained to begin repairs and, perhaps, discover the fountain of youth. That is the hope that needs to sustain us.
The only positive within this is the need for us to rejuvenate our planet. That is a future, and the disease that has spread is the denial of the future. For the first time in human history, we must quickly redesign almost everything we do. That is a violent change, and for rejuvenation to work, it must be a violent change.
Can we shed the unneeded superstructures we have erected on our planet and our societies while ditching centuries of useless baggage? Can we do this in some unison without simply destroying ourselves or each other? That is one hell of a question.
But first, we need the patience to wait out the delays and political sabotage that was allowed to build to this point, creating this endless weekend of vote counting.
At least we can have the sour pleasure of watching the Trump stooges and hangers-on struggling with their ridiculous schemes and justifications. You can watch them making the decision when to cut and run. Many are already bailing out in hopes of retaining some status.
Having gotten into this situation, there will be those who don’t make it out in time and end in the Trump regime's radioactive rubble. Trump, of course, saves no one. He is his own show.
The rush seems to be on to get a book contract while someone still cares to know the intimate details of a failed asshole. People like the damndest things. Unfortunately, pathological narcissists have nothing else to talk about but themselves, and we are sick of this one.
