Self interest is not something that can be eliminated. In fact the point, I think here, is that the movement to greed as a virtue and exploitation as justified may well generate wealth successfully by focusing on that. But that can only be, at best, a stage in our social and economic development. Failure to learn and evolve from that is deadly. The collapse of the American experiment that we are facing or refusing to face now shows the end of that line of development. Obviously, to me at least, we have come to the end of that road with the essence of mindless greed and hate sitting in the White House and ensconced in the halls of Congress. If the most we can hope for is finding someone we can trample on to show our superiority and gain a bit of loot from the loser there is no hope left for the planet.
