Despite a concerted effort by our media, federal, and state systems to ignore the ugly truth and maintain the pretense of normality, we can no longer ignore the national terrorist war led by Donald Trump and the Republican Party. This is not going to go away or get better. As we watch, the violence is growing. We are now at 255 mass shootings this year. That is a violent, terrorist war against democracy in this country.
Trump, despite being grossly ignorant, incompetent, and frequently delusional, has a single minded focus on inciting racist hatred and violence. He has been allowed to play the only game he knows under the pretext that he is only trying to get attention and doesn’t really understand what he is doing. This can now be seen as a fatal, national error.
We have moved to daily mass murders by white supremacists basing their actions on Trump’s words. Yet Trump is still allowed to spread lies and brutal threats daily. He is still allowed to hold “rallies” inciting racism and violence in those areas that have swallowed decades of malicious propaganda and willful ignorance while the nation watches in revulsion.
This is the result of the criminal corruption of the Republican Party that has blocked all efforts to halt the spread of military weapons while actively attacking broad populations in this country and fomenting racism and xenophobia. The flow of Russian criminal money to Trump, McConnell and others dedicated to the removal of voting rights and the imposition of fascist rule is well documented.
This is barely hidden behind the fog of lies and endlessly loud denials while these denials are openly contradicted by Trump’s poisonous speeches to his select followers. Trump is too far gone in delusion to be able to hide what he desires. Calls to kill and destroy are open commands to his followers to act. And act they are on a daily basis.
I honestly don’t think there is anyone who doubts Trump’s criminality after reading the Mueller report. There are only those attempting to use the endless scandals as a cover to enrich themselves and hold power illicitly. These people are known.
If there are people still attempting to deny the Trump and his cohort are in full support of white supremacist terrorism and active attacks on the basic principles of democracy, then they are, themselves, a problem that must be addressed quickly. I do not think that there is an adequate functioning political or justice system extant in Washington DC that can effectively handle the removal of a criminal regime in two and a growing part of the third division of the federal government.
Much of the current problem and the ability to place someone such as Trump in the White House with Moscow Mitch in charge of the senate is being maintained by political hacks in federal courts and the Supreme Court. The history of the Republican Party’s slide into authoritarianism dependent on gerrymandering and racist voter suppression, is well understood. They have made it clear that there is nothing that they will not condone to maintain their power despite a clear minority nationally.
Who do we turn to when Democratic pandering to long dead political legitimacy fails, as it will? With the Executive in criminal investigation and acting in direct defiance of the US Constitution and no longer valid, the Speaker of The House is next in line. The House of Representatives is the body representing the people of the US and the ultimate source of political authority. That body has the power to override normal process in the interest of the citizens.
This is outside the terms of the Constitution but in a national emergency preventing further bloodshed and destruction has priority. Giving a criminal regime the time and cover to solidify their illegitimate hold on power while driving their radical followers to violence against our representatives is not a moral or ethical plan to salvage democracy. This line of action is not an assumption or a slight possibility. Trump has been calling for action against his “enemies” for weeks. We already have enough dead bodies to know that he will not stop.
