Realizing the Nature of Our Enemy
Virtual action for democratic and environmental survival
by Mike Meyer ~ Honolulu ~ January 24. 2020
Watching the collapse of the US Senate under Republican control with the abandonment of any pretense of legitimacy in the face of overwhelming criminal evidence on the Trump regime, we need to begin aggressive action. The federal system appears already too far gone for any hope of recovery, but the devastation to American society and the planetary environment must be stopped.
We are facing a massive international criminal exploit designed to destroy even the pretense of representative government. These are not localized or isolated actions. These subversive acts are the direct result of late-stage neoliberal capitalism converting economic growth to rentier exploitation vastly enriching a billionaire class. That wealth has no use but the consolidation of power, enabling human oppression and arbitrary planetary destruction by those who have escaped control.
The result of this will be the end of nation-state governments as representative institutions. This change is nearly complete and happening very quickly now. The rise of Hindu oppression under Modi in India, lifetime rule by Xi Ping in China, the elimination of law under Trump in the US, state murder in Russia, Turkey, Brazil, and the Phillippines, and racism in all its forms are the tools used to justify the elimination of any democracy. These political takeovers use constant conspiracies to create fear among the most information deprived parts of the population who then become tools for authoritarian control.
With representative government gutted, the only remaining options are direct action and active sabotage of the tools for national destruction by urban and local governments, intelligently managed enterprises, private organizations, and individual people. Federal governments have become our enemies when taken over by criminal groups.
This action should include denial of social orders and regional implementation of socially positive and environmentally critical policies based on all scientific evidence and standards. In the US, the urban and state implementation of the Paris accords for climate and sanctuary cities for the protection of oppressed populations are early examples. We must begin active denial of all federal criminal intents in civil rights, the environment, and the climate crisis.
These criminal governments can end only when illegal control of national governments is removed and replaced by direct democratic systems.
We see more of these kinds of actions by enterprises taking responsibility for their effects on the planetary environment. And their respect for diversity and human rights. These logically override the old motives of predatory capitalism fostered by the criminal groups.
As the Trump regime frantically works to destroy environmental and climate crisis protections, I think we are seeing the beginnings of this revolutionary change. These direct, democratic counter actions need to be directed individually and by groups without the need for hierarchical control. The key is social communication protected from central government attacks.
Fortunately, people are not all stupid. With about 40% of the population susceptible to fascist and authoritarian lies and manipulation, this can only be a long and difficult struggle. But the majority are sensitive to the myths behind these lures. While I don’t have any detailed data on this, I do know what I would do in this situation as a business leader.
There is considerable confirmation for this assumption in looking at sizeable corporate policy actions on the climate crisis. Carbon reduction is critical, and we have planet-wide efforts to control this. Manufacturers are coming in line with full conversion away from fossil fuels and to reduced carbon release regardless of dangerous and exploitive national policies from national ruling groups.
Microsoft just announced that it would be carbon negative by 2030. Volkswagen will produce 1.5 million electric cars by 2025 and be carbon neutral by 2050. That is far too slow but is an accelerated, current goal. These are great examples, but how many smaller enterprises are managed by people very concerned with the reality of the climate crisis and not fooled by the political opportunists?
We are on the road to destruction, but many states and cities are working for compliance with the Paris standards to hold warming to 1.5 C or at least under 2.0 C.
The issuance of an absurd order to kill clean water controls nationally while allowing open destruction of wetlands will, I think, only be taken advantage of by complete idiots. Who would do that knowing the human damage done and knowing that the majority fo the US population wants Trump removed?
A primary area of post-Trump and post-Republican recovery will be the full restoration of all environmental standards and the removal of all destructive Trump based orders. I would not be surprised if Congress then created mechanisms to require repair to natural status for any organization that destroyed wetland or waterways or any other aspect of our environment under the criminal rules of the Trump regime.
Creating retroactive laws such as this would be a brutal action for those businesses and organizations taken in by Trump propaganda but is the kind of thing needed to restore our environment at the expense of those who supported this devastation.
As noted above, anyone managing companies and organizations should be thinking this right now. The moral and climate stupidity of anyone using a Trump order to begin development is such that they will deserve what they get. Anyone with any sense will ignore these aberrant orders and refuse to acknowledge them.
We all need to live, and the transition during the next decades is going to be brutal, with rapidly shifting rules and few opportunities. That positively would shape any intelligent person’s thinking. Organizational survival follows the same rules as human survival. No one can grant the right to destroy the environment.
Those that act on these criminal orders should know that they will be held responsible for the damage they cause and will be liable for full restoration in the future. It would help if our current presidential candidates took a stand on this but that will not happen and is part of the problem.
