Northrop Frye’s definition of tragedy versus comedy is excellent. I’ve begun to have trouble distinguishing the drama from comedy at this stage. We become comic in our anxiety by failing to laugh at tragically humorous idiots.

The problem is that comedy is a compartmentalized tragedy that will not touch us. But when it is not contained, it loses humor and becomes a threat.

Trump was initially funny, but he got loose. That’s the tragedy.
