Laboring for Labor Day

I am not going to waste time here. Things are starting to break open and significant parts of the American and European population are ready to act. That’s been a nebulous thing that isn’t their until it is.

My sense, which I have to admit is worth only what it is worth, says that things are happening in America now. The stink of the bullshit that is the sole product of the Trump lead Republican Party is becoming too much for decent people to handle. The Republican Part has shat themselves for so many years that they can’t even smell themselves and don’t understand why people are holding their noses and moving away from them as quickly as possible. Trump is finally under Nixon in polls and that, unlike many others before this, is a significant number.

We are at the triggering of disgust and the demand for real change. A great problem with this is that the smell coming from the Democratic Party is also right at the gag threshold. They have been living in the same outhouse with the Republicans for the last thirty years. There is no answer there except that there is no other answer allowed.

There are good people in the DSA but they need to travel under the Democratic Party flag and that should be the other way around. We have some people who have been working for enough years to be ready to take over. Elizabeth Warren is putting surprisingly real policies together that can show the way. Bernie Sanders was the prophet calling in the wilderness and needs to be honored for that but he is not a 21st century leader.

Slim hopes for America. One actual presidential candidate and half a dozen Congress critters and that is all there is to take on the largest national salvation in history. I cannot but doubt the odds of survival.

The cancer is metastasized throughout the aging American body and the chronic diseases of racism and nationalism are resurgent. Not a good prognosis. I suspect it will die on the operating table but if the quacks can be driven away there is a slim, outside chance to pull through . . . to something.

If the situation is not changed this year(!) I can’t see counting on a corrupted national election that is corrupted at the state level. The forces of ignorance and hatred are festering in too many states.

We need to get rid of the national parties now. We need to then break the back of both the federal political system and the state systems by making every major urban region (over 1.5 million?) the equivalent of a state. This will grant political power to the metropoles that are the future of humanity and destroy the bizarre rural weighting of the old 18th century US system.

This will shift the country to diversity and new economic powers. It will also undercut the old international power games that have worn themselves out. How? By betting on the growing urban world. China, the last great power that is still rising, is deathly frightened of their vast cities. There are 160 over 1 million in population and 6 over 10 million. Shanghai is a national city at 22 million. With a movement to empowering cities as the primary government for 50% of the planet’s population this would be hard to stop.

It’s a serious downfield play but we are at that point. Break the old parties in the US and give the power to our cities that are a majority of our population and our most diverse.

To hell with playing this downfield. Let’s change the field and play it where the people actually live.
