It’s that time again —
by Mike Meyer
Don’t worry, I’m not going to give you nine reasons to write on Medium or three reasons to quit. I’m not even going to give you five ways to gain 10,000 followers in three days and start a novel while nailing the totally missed opportunities for your startup. It obviously makes no difference if I did or didn’t so you can quit now.
After some two plus years of writing on Medium, that is three, maybe four, major editorial redirections, and the rise and fall of blogazines, titled collections, serialized smart phone pictures, the troubled tale of print publications being invited in and chased out. Through all of that there have been periodic success at beating back the plague of listicles but the damn things keep coming back, apparently, in cycles. We seem to be in high listicle phase again
All of this may be somehow involved in the mysterious algorithm used to generate all of our reading lists and I just my be on the short end of the shit list. Maybe it’s my just my turn on the listicles list so I get everyone that is submitted. Sometimes five in a row that assure me that I son’t know whether to shit or go blind once I finish reading whatever.
People read the damn things. I know that. I don’t have to like it and I don’t have to read them. We all have a large number of things that we know, don’t know, want to do, can’t do, wish we hadn’t done, and plan to someday regret not having done. I don’t give a shit.
Fie on you! And if you don’t know what ‘fie’ means you’re probably a listicle writer.
