It’s hard to add anymore than I have said already but, barring a small minority, people are neither stupid nor cruel. The ‘others’ can always be shown as scary and dangerous until they see that they are real people and everyone cares about real people.

People are basically good unless they have been seriously distorted but they will, out of politeness, go along with those around them. In my experience, once they go home and think about it, they don’t want to see themselves as hateful. That is the point at which they become silent rather than argue with their friends and neighbors.

The media see the noisy assholes and does not see the people who would never kick the noisy asshole, are too polite to argue, but, in the end want to be fair.

2016 was an aberration driven by the Republican sell out to Putin. That brought an incredibly large and sophisticated 21st century propaganda machine in that was able to target manipulation on people who did not have a clue what was happening. Much of the noise for the last three years has been reactionary embarrassment at getting suckered and angrily denying it.

Whatever Fox News does it cannot block all knowledge of what has been and is happening. The people doing this are very obviously not nice people.

In the Midwest appearing to be ‘nice’ is critical. That is the land of the plastic runners to keep the living room carpet clean. And the family sits in the kitchen.
