I realized about five years ago that we are in an evolutionary corner. Our form of sentience is basically literary. Dramatic tales are what we use to elaborate our predominantly unconscious, mundane daily behaviors. We have pushed our mental envelope to the limits of its elasticity but it is not enough.

Using punctuated equilibrium we are about the take an evolutionary leap in our ability to handle massive information from a non-emotional perspective. If we have time we will make that change although that will create possibly two or more human species. But then we have evolved ways to build intelligent systems that do what we can’t.

Will use biological evolution or combined electronic and biological to survive? We aren’t going to make it with that. So I am firmly on the side of teh deus ex machina as our future, if there is one.
