As a hybrid educator, thirty years in media and Internet services and a bit longer in higher education, I’ve often been the annoying voice of commercial technology trying to explain web services to educators who don’t understand the emerging media. You have clearly identified the blog problem for both secondary and tertiary education. A blog is not a thing in itself but part of a communication system with an accelerating evolution. I think the problem is the hold of old one-way media. The goal was publication. Wrong. The goal is finding media (as in Medium) in which to have a conversation. And not just one. The model now is to create not one presence or one blog but as many as you have interests. Help students find their first forum and the first time someone they don’t know comments on what they said they will do it again.
