America is now a fatal disease threatening the planet
How did we come to this? There is a simple answer that cannot be stated in America. Poverty causes suffering and death and in the end revolution and war. But for this country, because of a long and twisted history, poverty is cherished as a way to feed the massive greed of a tiny racial elite. At different times an effort was made to break out of this but the effort to move to a more enlightened view of life has always been beaten back at great cost in human suffering.
The Civil War was fought to break the back of slavery with nearly half of all deaths to foreign wars to 2018 having died in the Civil War. And the result? Racism won. Within ten years of the Civil War racism was being enacted via Jim Crow laws that were never challenged until the 1960s, almost a hundred years later. Did it succeed? The new trick was to officially declare success so the advances could be rolled back and ignored. The great benefit to America of the propaganda advances of Nazi Germany and Stalinist Russia was the discovery that continuously denying that a problem even exists puts the proof of that problem on the oppressed. Reports of oppression can then be easily denied as “asking for favors”. And if they start to succeed then, “we are oppressed, too!”.
The tremendous gains based on European models brought by the New Deal in response to the Great Depression and the expansion of Social Security, unions, and education from the 1950s and 60s are being destroyed now. That is what America great. It has taken forty years to destroy but the evil forces of oppression and greed are now in control.
This is the shame that has destroyed America by locking it into 19th century thinking. Forty years of economic oppression has brought this country to the verge of civil war again. America represents a resurgent disease that is eating away at our planetary gains. The utter crudity of the Trump regime is built on forty years of sick desire for social and economic destruction. This is not politics but a deadly disease. How can we kill this disease?
