Absolutely correct. It would have helped to define fascism in the larger historical context that would have prevented some of the more ignorant responses. While fascism in its modern form was formalized in Italy under Mussolini and in a different form in Nazi Germany, it is basically neofeudalism in the modern state. As umair haque explained it is the result of stagnant economics with anger and no hope. The power is the traditional strongman who takes from some and gives to others who feel injustice for their obvious rights. It is not law but personal relationships based on whatever the strong man defines.
In this sense it is very close to the distorted hyper-capitalism of the last forty years. The disastrous definition ‘freedumb’ as racist, xenophobia with no rights except to give absolute loyalty to the lords of wealth in exchange for trickle down income, laid the foundation for crude power. And you don’t get any cruder than the remnants of the Republican part and Trump. They perform ever more outrageously to be noticed and rewarded while Trump insanely demands more . . .
